    1.2.3 Clearance of Cargo
     
  1. All documents should be cleared at the final carriers town office except Diplomatic mail, Newspapers, Perishables, Radio-active materials and Valuables could be retained at the airport upon the prior request and the standing orders given by the consignee.

  2. Personal effects by consignee only at town Customs Bonded Warehouse.

  3. Consolidated shipments containing personal effects, should be cleared by the agent at the airport and arrange transfers to the Customs Bonded Warehouse in the City.

  4. Unclaimed cargo after 90 days transferred to Customs Bonded warehouse Colombo.
       
    1.2.4 Customs Hours
      Monday through Friday 09.00-16.15 hrs. Clearance outside Customs hours possible against payment of overtime fee.
       
    1.2.5 Delivery
      Delivery to consignee possible.
       
    1.2.6 (Re)-Forwarding
      Possible by air (not on domestic services) on transhipment documents approved by Customs and, where necessary by Exchange Control.
       
 2 IMPORT
  2.1 GENERAL
       
    2.1.1 Packing
      Hay or straw may be used.
       
    2.1.2 Marking
      Packages must show country of origin, gross and net weights measures of outer packing.
       
    2.1.3 Language on documents
      English
       
  2.2 RESTRICTIONS
       
    2.2.1 Live animals
     
  • An application should be sent to the Director – General, Animal Production & Health (DG/APH) to the following address:

  • Health Certificate: From relevant Government Authority for all animals including fowl.

  • Consignee contact details should be pre-advised to cargo imports with telephone/address. (Sita code – CMBFIUL/CMBFOUL)

  • If any additional information is required, contact carrier concerned.
       
    2.2.2 Plants and plant material
     
  • Import Permit from Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka

  • Phytosanitary Certificate
       
    2.2.3 Arms, ammunition and explosives
      Contact the airline concerned.
       
    2.2.4 Narcotics and drugs
      Proprietary drugs: Import Licence from the controller of Imports and Exports.
Narcotics: Prohibited.
       
    2.2.5 Human remains
     
  • Inner casket must be zinc or lead lined and hermetically sealed.

  • Prior permission from SriLankan Airlines Security &Investigations Division should be obtained for UL traffic only (Sita code – CMBGZUL)

  • Death Certificate stating cause of death should only be in English (or translated copy into English should be affixed to the original Death Certificate for necessary information)

  • Passport of the deceased.

  • Consignee contact details should be pre-advised to cargo imports with telephone/address (Sita code – CMBFIUL/CMBFOUL)
       
    2.2.6 Medicines and vaccines
      Import licence from the Controller of Imports and Exports.
       
  2.3 PROHIBITED CARGO
    Too many to list. Shipper should contact respective Consulate or other authority and also carrier concerned.
