of Service Delivery for SriLankan Airlines, Walter Riggans,
was elected by the IATA Inflight Council as a member of the
IATA Inflight Board at its recent annual meeting in Geneva,
Switzerland.
The IATA Inflight Council is the principal forum for airlines
and other organisations involved in inflight service. The
Council brings together IATA and non-IATA airlines, industry
suppliers and other parties to address issues related to inflight
service. The Council acts as a forum and focal point for information
exchange, discussion of industry inflight service trends and
the development of new inflight products and services.
The IATA Inflight Board provides policy guidance and expertise
to IATA management on all aspects of inflight service activity.
The Board plays an active role in providing overall direction
and general management for IATA Inflight Council activities,
the development of industry standards and procedures as they
relate to inflight activity (these are then published in the
IATA Inflight Management Manual) and other specific assignments
related to inflight safety and service. Working Groups comprising
members of the Inflight Council are set up by the Inflight
Board to deal with specific subjects and their recommendations
are also published in the Inflight Management Manual. Present
Working Groups are Cabin Safety, Cabin Systems, Cabin Crew
Management and Cabin Crew Performance.

Runner Up for Best Cabin Staff’ and the World Airline
Entertainment Association recently awarded us ‘Best
Overall Inflight Entertainment’ for an airline of our
size. In a recent Skytrax survey our Airport Service, staff
came in the top ten of all airlines for airport service standards.
All this proves that SriLankan Airlines is a truly world-class
airline and we will certainly continue in our efforts to meet
and exceed our passengers expectations.”
