General Information     Airport Information     Import     Transhipment/Transit     Export   Import     GENERAL     Packing   Hay or straw may be used.   Marking   Packages must show country of origin, gross and net weights, measures of outer packing.   Language on documents   English     DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS     Commercial consignments •  Commercial Invoices should include the following: selling price; charges for transportation and insurance; number of the Import Licence; marks, serial numbers, quantity and kind of packages; measures of outer packing; exact description of goods; gross and net weight; country of origin; composition of weave in case of textiles. One copy to be marked: "For Customs and for audit purposes". •  Two Certificates of Origin must be included if the goods are from the British Commonwealth. •  Import Licence (granted to registered importers only) are required for most goods. Authorization should be obtained from the Controller of Imports and Exports.   Sample Consignments   See Commercial Consigments Samples are subject to normal import duties where applicable. When temporarily imported a deposit can be paid, 7/8ths of which is refundable upon re-exportation within 6 months.   Gift consignments   Three Pro-forma Invoices are required.   Unaccompanied baggage   The submission of a list of contents is usually required.     RESTRICTIONS     Live animals •  An Import Permit is required from the Director, Department of Animal Production and Health of Sri Lanka. •  A Health Certificate should be obtained from the relevant Government Authority for all animals including fowl.   Plants and plant material •  An Import permit is required from the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka. •  It is necessary to obtain a Phytosanitary Certificate.   Arms, ammunition and explosives   An Import Permit has to be obtain in advance.   Narcotics and drugs   Proprietary Drugs: An Import Licence is required from the Controller of Imports and Exports. Narcotics:The import of narcotics into Sri Lanka is prohibited.   Human remains •  The Inner casket must be zinc or lead lined and hermetically sealed. •  Prior permission should be obtained from the SriLankan Airlines Security & Investigations Division for SriLankan Airlines traffic only (Sita code - CMBGZUL). •  A Death Certificate in English stating the cause of death is required. (An original Death Certificate is accepted if an English translation is affixed). •  The Passport of the deceased is required. •  The consignee contact details (both the telephone number and address) should be provided in advance to Cargo Imports (Sita code - CMBFIUL/CMBFOUL).   Medicines and vaccines   An Import licence from the Controller on imports and exports is required.     PROHIBITION   The Shipper should contact the Consulate or the relevant authorities to obtain a list of items prohibited for import.
