| | Import of Live Animals
|
| | The
Animal Diseases Act of 1992 details regulations, which are to be followed in order
to prevent the introduction of poultry and livestock diseases to Sri Lanka through
the import of live animals. If a live animal is to be brought into the country
the procedure given below should be followed: |
| |
| | The
importer should apply for permission to: The Director-General, Animal Production
and Health (DG/APH) P.O. Box 13, Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Tel: 08 388195/388189/388462/388463
Fax: 08 388619 | | | |
| | The
Director-General will study the dangers involved, based on the type of animal
and the country of origin and issue a "permit" together with a set of
conditions. These conditions include vaccination and testing, and must be satisfied
at the time of import. Copies of the permit are then sent to the Quarantine Unit
at the Airport. | | | |
| | The
Animal Quarantine officers will inspect the animal at the point of entry, study
the documents and decide on the course of action to be taken. | | | |
